The story of a little girl named Ilanzi, and the foundation built to carry her light forward.

She was my niece. She was deeply loved, and although her time on earth lasted only a few precious months, her life continues to illuminate countless others in ways none of us could have imagined.
In my native language, Ilanzi means “Light.” At the time, it was simply the beautiful name chosen for a beautiful little girl. We could never have known that one day her name would become the heart of a mission dedicated to bringing light, hope, and opportunity to people in need.
Shortly after Ilanzi's passing, her mother — my sister — made a remarkable decision. Without hesitation, she gathered the beautiful clothes that had been lovingly prepared for her daughter and donated them to an orphanage caring for babies who had been abandoned, orphaned, or left without families. The very first gift ever given in Ilanzi's name was not money. It was love.
Every year thereafter, my sister continued donating clothing and necessities to orphanages and families in need. Watching her changed me. She taught me that compassion is not merely something we feel — it is something we demonstrate. She showed me that even the deepest sorrow does not have to become the end of a story. Sometimes, by the grace of God, it becomes the beginning of someone else's hope.
Over time, some questions settled deeply in my heart: What if one little girl's legacy could continue bringing light into the lives of others? What if her name became more than something our family remembered — something communities experienced?
Those questions slowly became a vision. And that vision has birthed The Ilanzi Foundation.
That vision first took root in Zambia, the homeland of our family and the place where Ilanzi's first legacy of giving began. Today, The Ilanzi Foundation exists to bring light, hope, and opportunity through humanitarian aid, education, health initiatives, and sustainable development.
Although this Foundation bears Ilanzi's name, it is not defined by the sorrow of losing her. It is defined by the light she continues to inspire.
May we always choose compassion over convenience.
May generosity never seek recognition.
May service always preserve dignity.
May integrity guide every decision we make.
And may the light that began with one precious little girl continue to shine for generations to come.
With gratitude, hope, and unwavering faith,
